Beaugrand, Félix.
Synopsis
Felix Beaugrand was a member of the Franciscan order. His travels, made in 1699 also included Crete, Patmos and Cyprus, and his account includes many details of Turkish customs (pp. 187-207). Only the first edition was published with the author’s name. Later editions, published without the author’s name, appeared in 1754 and 1760. At the end of the second leaf after the title-page is the approbation, dated 12 August 1700. The work is divided into two parts. The first part, consisting of 40 chapters, describes mainly the Island of Cyprus, Mount-Lebanon, Syria, Corsica and Sardinia, with special attention to Nazareth and Jerusalem and their Biblical places. The second part, consisting of 40 chapters is concentrated upon the twelve tribes that inhabited the Holy Land, their origins and religion, and describes Barbaria, Malta, Crete, Patmos and Constantinople.
