The contact between Snouck Hurgronje and Goldziher from a significant aspect of the formative period of European Islamwissenschaft. In his personal diary, one of the most precious documents of the western study of Islam, Ignaz Goldziher bears witness to the importance of his correspondence with Hurgronje, for his scholarly and literary development.
