Synopsis

Rawlinson, was the Canon of Canterbury, and a writer of ancient history. Early in his career he devoted himself to the preparation of an elaborate English edition of Herodotus, and it was published in 4 volumes 1858-60.
Perusing his researches in this field, Rawlinson summarised for his generation in a scholarly form the results of researches and excavations in Iraq and Iran, and published this work in 4 volumes in 1862-67. This is the second edition. (DNB).
