Synopsis

The author, a former British diplomat charged with political reporting, lived in Iran for more than a decade and had come to know the country quite intimately. He was living in Tehran when the ‘convulsion’ – as he describes the Iranian Revolution – occurred and felt compelled to keep a day-to-day record of the events he was witnessing around him as the priest and the king – the Ayatollah Khomeini and the Shah – squared up to one another.
