Synopsis

Believed to have been executed by Captain Robert Moresby (1794-1854), a distinguished Captain in the Royal Navy and an important maritime surveyor and draughtsman. He made an important contribution to the charting of the Red Sea and several archipelagos in the Indian Ocean, including the Maldives, Laccadives and Chagos in the 1820s and 1830s. Moresby is known to have surveyed the Gulf of Aqaba, in which the Aden Protectorate is situated.
