Synopsis

This exhibition (June 15 – September 15, 2019), curated by Dr. Yasmine Nachabe Taan, demonstrates the many ways that drawings are faithful testimonies of artistic practices. They represent the artist’s attempt to finding creative activity within art history. Starting with Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate under the Ottoman Empire to the French Mandate, Independence, and the establishment of the first Fine Arts institutions in Lebanon, moving forward to the rise of art gallery culture in Beirut in the 1960s, to the civil war and beyond.
