Synopsis

The first edition appeared in 1846 in two volumes, with a variant title. A German translation appeared in 1854 at Stuttgart. This undated journey took place after 1843, probably c. 1845, since de Valon gives an account of the Greek state expenses for 1843. The first part deals with Sicily: Palermo, Etna, Malta, Greece, and the Oriental side of Sicily. The second part deals with Turkey: Rhodes and Pathmos, Smyrne, Constantinople, the Danube and “De La Réforme Des Quarantaines”.
