Synopsis

“An account of a sojourn in Persia, and the customs and manners of its people. Some interesting comments on Abbas Mirza, the Crown Prince, whom the author says the clergy disliked and accused of being a Westerner, citing his European-style boots. The real cause of the clergy’s dislike was his advocacy of a “new order”, which included introduction of conscription in the army and the construction of iron-smelting plants. The author, a Frenchman, was a cavalry colonel in the service of the Tsarist Russia”.
